ورفع الهدف كثيرا من معنويات لاعبي الأهلي وهاجموا بقوة لتحقيق الفوز لكن الترجي نجح في الحفاظ على نتيجة التعادل.
وبذلك يكفي الترجي التعادل السلبي في مباراة العودة برادس بعد أسبوعين للتويج بالبطولة للمرة الثالثة في تاريخه.
بينما يحتاج الأهلي إلى الفوز أو التعادل بنتيجة أهداف تزيد عن مباراة الذهاب.

في مباراة اتسمت باضاعة الفرص بالنسبة للنادي الاهلي المصري امام نادي الترجي التونسي ، حيث اضاع النادي الاهلي العديد من الفرص في الشوط الاول ولكنها لم تكلل بالنجاح ، ثم استطاع اللاعب وليد الهيشري لاعب نادي الترجي التونسي احراز الهدف الاول لفريقه في الدقيقة الخامسة ليتقدم فريق الترجي التونسي بهدف مقايل لا شيئ للنادي الاهلي.ثم استمات لاعبي النادي الاهلي في الهجوم على الترجي وبالفعل استطاع التعادل عن طريق اللاعب السيد حمدي في الدقيقة 89 وبذلك يكون نتيجة لقاء اليوم التعادل 1/1 لكلا الفريقين.

الشوط الاول :

بدأت المباراة بضغط هجومى مبكر من الأهلى ومن أول لحظه كاد جدو أن يخطف كرة طائشة امام مرمى الترجى لكنها ابتعدت عنه لكنها ايضاً فى نفس الوقت أعلنت عن أن الأهلى يريد ارسال انذار مبكر للفريق التونسى من خلال المباراة . 

ثم واصل الأهلى الضغط الهجومى وليد سليمان وعبد الله السعيد على الأطراف وكاد وليد سليمان أن يحرز هدفا ايضا لكن الكرة ابتعدت عن أقدامه ولم تكن للترجى خلال هذه الدقائق اى محاولات هجومية سوى بعض الانطلاقات من المهاجم نيانج بينما يزداد الضغط الاهلاوى مع مرور الوقت ويتسبب وليد سليمان فى حصول لاعب الترجى العواضى على إنذار فى الدقيقة 8 بسبب الخشونة معه وبعده إنذار آخر حصل عليه اللاعب الدربالى فى الدقيقة 10 .

ثم سدد عبد الله السعيد كرة قوية فى الدقيقة 14 لكنها ذهبت ضعيفة فى يد حارس الترجى ..

وفى الدقيقة 26 يحصل أحمد فتحى على الانذار الأول بعدما عرقل لاعب الترجى التونسى ، ثم يظهر عبد الله السعيد مجددا من خلال تسديدة بقدمه اليسرى كادت ان تذهب فى الزاوية اليمنى لب شريفيه حارس الترجى لكنه أنقذها بصعوبة ..

وفى الدقيقة 32 تتاح للأهلى الفرصة الأخطر فى الشوط الأول بعدما راوغ أحمد فتحى لاعب الترجى ودخل منطقة الجزاء ومررها لأبو تريكه الذى سددها خارج المرمى وسط صيحات الجماهير التى انتظرت ان تهز تلك الكر شباك الترجى .. 

ويتواصل الضغط الأحمر عبر كل أرجاء الملعب ، وفى الدقيقة 36 تمريرة سحرية من حسام غالى لمحمد ناجى جدو لكن حارس الترجى أنقذ الموقف .. وفى الدقيقة 44 إنذار للاعب الترجى خليل شمام بعدما سدد الكرة فى جسم وليد سليمان بعد احتسابه فاول للأهلى ..

ويحتسب الحكم الجزائرى جمال حيمودى 3 دقائق وقت بدل ضائع .

وفى الدقيقة الثانية من الوقت بدل الضائع فرصة خطيرة للترجى من تمريرة بينية تضع أفول مهاجم الترجى فى مواجهة شريف إكرامى الذى ينقذ الموقف .. ثم يطلق الحكم صافرته معلناً انتهاء الشوط الأول الذى كان الأهلى خلاله الأفضل وأضاع خلاله 3 فرص مؤكدة للتهديف .

الشوط الثاني : 

وفى بداية الشوط الثانى يجرى الكابتن حسام البدرى المدير الفنى للأهلى تغييراً بنزول السيد حمدى بدلاً من شريف عبد الفضيل .. وفى الدقيقة الثالثة من بداية الشوط الثانى ركنية للترجى التونسى يقابلها مهاجم الترجى برأسه فى مرمى شريف إكرامى محرزاً الهدف الأول للترجى .. 

وفى الدقيقة 8 يسدد عبد الله السعيد تسديدة قوية يمسكها الحارس على مرتين.. ويحصل أفول لاعب الترجى على إنذار فى الدقيقة 9 .. ويسدد محمد ناجى جدو تسديدة قوية ينقذها الحارس ويخرجها ركنية فى الدقيقة 12 .. ثم يجرى البدرى تغيير ثانى فى الدقيقة 16بنزول محمد بركات بدلاً من حسام غالى ، ويحصل الترجى على ضربة ركنية فى الدقيقة 18 يقابلها مهاجم الترجى برأسه تخرج بجوار مرمى شريف إكرامى .

وفى الدقيقة 25 يصاب أفواه ويقوم نبيل معلول المدير الفنى للترجى بتغييره . ثم تأتى فرصة خطيرة لمحمد أبو تريكه يخرجها حارس الترجى بصعوبة خارج المرمى .. وتستمر المباراة فى اتجاه واحد حيث ضغط أهلاوى فى كل الاتجاهات لمحاولة إدراك هدف التعالد بينما يلجأ الترجى فقط للدفاع والاعتماد على الهجمات الطولية المرتدة لنيانج وتضيع أكثر من فرصة امام المرمى من امام عماد متعب والسيد حمدى . 

ويلجأ لاعبو الترجى الى العادة المعروفة بالسقوط على ارض الملعب لاضاعة الوقت فى ظل الضغط الاهلاوى المستمر نحو احراز هدف التعادل .. وفى الدقيقة 40 من الشوط الثانى ضربة حرة مباشرة من على يسار منطقة الجزاء يسددها عبد الله السعيد فى وسط المرمى ويمسكها بن شريفيه .

وتستمر المباراة بضغط أهلاوى حتى يحرز السيد حمدى هدف التعادل للأهلى فى الدقيقة 43 من الشوط الثانى من تمريرة أحمد فتحى التى تجد السيد حمدى الذى يودعها شباك الترجى معلناً هدف التعادل .

ويضغط الاهلى فى الدقائق الاخيرة ويكاد عبد الله السعيد ان يحرز الهدف الثانى للأهلى من تسديدة من خارج منطقة الجزاء تصطدم بمدافع الترجى لتخرج ركنية ثم أخرى لمحمد تريكه يسددها خارج المرمى ثم يطلق حيمودى صفارته معلناً نهائة المباراة بالتعادل 1/1 ..

I received a brief note from Umair Asim late last night. He mentioned that at the time the school building was burnt down, he along with his parents and three teachers were in the office. He said that it is long story of how they survived "those 6 hours". He again confirmed that this was a simple unintentional mistake, that has caused all this commotion. Will update you when I hear more from him.

So were the protestors just upset about the supposed blasphemy? Well, apart from the "protest" that included setting the school on fire, they took generators, computers, office furniture, and equipment from science labs. Apparently, in some instances they even took marble tiles from the school floor. Oh - and if you are wondering about the books - well, thousands of library books were thrown from the school rooftop into the blazing fire in the school courtyard (by the way, I wonder, if any had Qur'anic verses written on them...). And whatever cash was in the school, it was also looted.

There you go. These are actions of the so called self-appointed guardians of religion. My guess is that this is the result of a combination of envy and fear. Envy - that a girls high school is doing so well and has high quality equipment compared to any madrassa's in the country. And fear - that the girls are being educated. I can imagine confrontations between the conservative men and their daughters who want to go to school. But Lahore is not Swat (at least not yet). It is not that easy to simply close down a school because you don't want education for girls. But - ah - the blasphemy law provides a perfect excuse to go after anyone. All one has to do is to point a finger. Does it really matter if the court decides that there is no blasphemy here. Will the lives of Umair Asim and his family, the accused teacher and her family - ever be the same?

The discussion in the blasphemy mess has now shifted to 'who is to blame for blasphemy'. On the one hand, this is to be expected. Individuals are not only fighting for their lives but also the lives of their family members. Last Friday, the school administration put out a full page ad in the local newspaper placing the blame for any blasphemous material in the negligence of the teacher (who is in hiding). Now, the accused teacher has blamed the school administration. While this exchange of blame is understandable, what may get lost in this is our outrage towards the burning of the school on the flimsiest of accusations, and the larger problem of the blasphemy law. Ultimately, this was an unintentional mistake made by a student for his paper. This should have nothing to do with blasphemy. And certainly it should not be considered blasphemy if the student's teacher or the school administrators did not catch the mistake. Heck - I'm grading papers at college level, and I know that things can easily pass-by when one has to grade a large number of papers. But of course, judging from recent examples of blasphemy accusations, it would be pointless to talk any sense or reason to the mob of men (and yes these are all men) or the clerics (yes, also all men) who are behind the incitement. 

By the way, the complainant in this blasphemy case is the Vice Principal of a religious school, Jamia Kareemia Sadidia (or is it "Jamia Karimia Sadia"?), near the burnt-out Farooqi Girls High School. Does anyone know what kind of religious school is this and what is their stance on education for women? 

In the mean time, here is an excerpt from the news item about the accused teacher blaming the school administration: 

According to a letter available with Daily Times, Irfa Iftikhar, a class 6 teacher blamed for committing blasphemy, has alleged that her fellow senior teachers and school administration did not recheck content of a question paper prepared by one of her students. 

The letter, distributed by a relative of Irfa at a press conference, states that three other teachers of English department, including the department head, were tasked with preparing examination papers. 

It said the paper with blasphemous content was written by a student who could not figure out the book had a torn page and, therefore, “unintentionally” wrote wrong lines. 

According to the letter, one of the relatives of Principal Asim Farooqi had rechecked the question paper and approved it with her signatures.

I'm tired of people saying that the problem is only with application of the Blasphemy law in Pakistan. The lives of those who are accused of (not even convicted) are forever changed. Do you think Umair Asim and his family will be the same tomorrow? And Umair's family is only tangentially linked to the blasphemy case.

And if you are looking for how easy it is to bring up blasphemy accusations, just see these few examples that have come up in the past month:

Oct 11th, 2012: Christian boy in Pakistan arrested for blasphemy

A 16-year-old Christian boy has been held on blasphemy charges in the Pakistani city of Karachi.
The boy, named by police as Ryan Stanten, is said to have forwarded a text message which allegedly contained offensive material on Tuesday.
The following day an angry crowd ransacked his family home, setting fire to their belongings on the street.
...
Reports say the 16-year-old boy was taken to see local prayer leaders in Karachi after the message was sent on Tuesday.
Police say the boy told the leaders he had forwarded the message without reading it to others in the middle-class compound for employees of the local gas company where he lived.
His mother was employed by the gas company and reports say she has since been dismissed from her job.

So her mother was fired was fired from her job because of this, and here are the belongings of his family:

And here is a case that involves the prestigious National College of Arts (NCA) in Lahore.

October 11, 2012: NCA Principal Barred from Leaving Country

LAHORE: Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial of the Lahore High Court on Wednesday restrained National College of Arts (NCA) acting Principal Dr Sajjad Kausar from going abroad till a petition seeking blasphemy cases against NCA staff for publishing “sacrilegious images” in its annual magazine, is decided on.
The petitioner’s counsel told the court on Wednesday that Kausar was due to retire soon and he feared that he might try to flee the country. The court adjourned till October 23.
The petitioner has accused college officials of spreading obscenity and “promoting anti-islamic thoughts”. He has asked the court to direct the police to register a blasphemy case against the staff and to ban the magazine.

Another case involves another principal of another school. In this case he could be charged with narcissism but not blasphemy - which carries a death sentence in Pakistan:

October 23, 2012: Blasphemy Allegations: Principal in hot water for 'comparing self to prophet (pbuh)'

LAHORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Javedul Hassan Chishti has cancelled the pre-arrest bails of a school principal and six other employees, who are accused of blasphemy for including the principal in a list of role models alongside the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). 

The respondents attended proceedings on a private complaint on Monday morning and were summoned by the judge for 3pm to hear his verdict. However, they did not turn up for the announcement. 

Qurban Ali, the principal of Qurban and Surayya Educational Trust, and other school officials are alleged to have committed blasphemy in a school book that they made titled Qurban Agahi. 

The book included a chapter on role models and a set of four questions and answers about what makes a good hero and some good examples. Six “heroes for our society” were listed as: 1) Holy Prophet (pbuh); 2) Quaid-i-Azam; 3) Sir Syed Ahmad Khan; 4) Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah; 5) Abdul Sattar Edhi; and 6) ‘Sir Qurban’, the principal of the school. 

Advocate Ghulam Mustafa Chaudhry, the counsel for the complainant and the president of the Khatme Nabuwwat Lawyers Forum, submitted that the school officials had blasphemed. He said that tests were given to students asking who their favourite role model was, and many wrote the principal’s name. He said that the principal had tried to compare himself to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). He said that Mufti Muhammad Khan Qadri had issued a decree (fatwa) declaring them to have committed blasphemy.

One can laugh at these type of accusations if the consequences for those involved were not so serious. In a dark medieval universe, how would this count as a blasphemy? And if you look closely, you will find that the council for the complainant is the President of Khatme Nabuwwat Forum - one of the notorious groups going after the Ahmadis in Pakistan. And indeed, if you dig deeper, this is what you find in this blasphemy case:

The respondents said that they were innocent. They said that the police had investigated the allegations and, finding them to be untrue, discharged the complaint for the FIR, which was registered in September 2009. They said that they had not intended to offend with the books. They said that ulema of Jamia Naeemia had issued a decree stating that they had apologised and had not intended to commit blasphemy. The ulema had said that there was room in Islam to forgive those who committed an act unintentionally. 

Astonishingly, they also told the court that the ulema had asked them to expel all Christian and Ahmedi teachers from their school and that they had done so. They asked the court to grant them bail.

Ah - that makes a clearer connection. But don't worry, the judge cancelled the bail. You can imagine the turmoil in these seven families and lives of seven individuals are now hang in balance.

I don't know the current status of Umair Asim. His name is not mentioned in the story below. It is possible that he was arrested in the initial stage (along with his mother and father) but now only his father is in jail (and he is in hiding). But it is also possible that most of the focus is on his father, and his name doesn't make it in the news. In any case, his 77-year old father's appeal for bail has been denied. Yes - apparently his crime is so severe that he cannot even be granted bail. Oh - yes. His crime is that he is the principal of a school where one of his teachers is accused of blasphemy.

Here is from Express Tribune:

LAHORE: A court on Saturday refused bail to the principal of a school caught in a blasphemy row over a piece of homework allegedly containing derogatory references to Prophet Mohammed (PBUH). 

Asim Farooqi, 77, was remanded in custody for 14 days on charges of blasphemy despite arguing he had no direct part in the case. 

One of his teachers, Arfa Iftikhar, was forced into hiding after a furious mob stormed Farooqi Girls’ High School in Lahore over a piece of homework she set.
“The bail petition is dismissed,” Judge Anjum Raza announced after hearing arguments from Farooqi’s lawyer. 

The lawyer, Jawad Ashraf, had asked for bail on the grounds the principal had no role in the incident. 

“The principal of the school can only be held responsible for negligence and has no direct role in the blasphemy incident, he should be released,” he told the court.
About 10 clerics from local mosques gathered at the court to oppose the principal’s release.
But at the same time around 2,000 students, parents and teachers gathered at the school to demand its reopening, carrying placards and chanting slogans which included: “Release our principal.”

What a shameful mess! All of our hopes and best wishes for Umair's father in this horrid time. I also have all the sympathies for the teacher - Arfa Iftikhar - who is in the hiding. This so much reminds me of the stories of various witch trials in Europe. Someone accidentally does something and his/her life is changed dramatically for the worse.

I remember newspapers carrying two almost identical pictures and then asking people to spot the difference. The difference of course was hard to find - but it was there. To make it easy for you, here is an opposite case. The two pictures below are protesting about the same school in Lahore - but they are polar opposites (in more than one way). Lets see if you can spot the differences. Let me give you another hint: One group wants to burn a school and the other one wants to go to the very same school. Can you identify that group?

These are both Pakistans. The question is which Pakistan will prevail? For which Pakistan are we willing to speak up and stand up? It cannot simply be about religion - as we can see that one side has beards (though not all) and the other side is also wearing doputtas and hijabs.

On October 31, a young girl Maryam, clad in a shalwar kameez and headscarf, looked down from the roof of her house located across the Farooqi Girls High School in Lahore, as protesters vandalised the school where she studied in grade three. 

“We won’t be going to school for sometime Ami says,” she said to me, as the mob set fire to the school, where just a day earlier she had attended classes. 

Located in a densely-populated area near Kareem Park, the school had been providing education to girls up to grade 10, with most of its former students now sending their children to the same school. 

Owing to the nature of the blasphemy allegations levelled against the school administration and a sixth grade teacher, emotions of the protesters were high that day. 

These charges stemmed from comments allegedly written by Iftikhar in a class 6 student’s notebook while checking a homework assignment to translate a passage about the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet (pbuh) from English to Urdu. Photocopies of the offending page were being handed out at the protest. 

As I talked to the protesters, I realised they had, it seemed, made up their mind. The verdict was out: the school was not to function there any longer and the protesters were not willing to wait for the outcome of legal investigations which had been initiated by the police.

Eventually, after having thoroughly demolished the school, the protesters calmed down, following intervention by a few elders of the area allowing the police to return.
But amidst the unrest, what was most disturbing was the helplessness with which local residents looked on as the mob vandalised and destroyed a 30-year-old school in front of their very eyes. 

Matters of faith are, indeed, sensitive but does that justify the mob’s actions against the school? 

If no, why did this happen? 

If yes, then can somebody please tell Maryam where she should now study?

I’m calling this lemon curd “lite” because it does have less fat than most traditional recipes, but that doesn’t mean it’s a “light” recipe. Calling this recipe “lite” is kind of like calling thin-crust pizza, “low-carb.” It’s all relative. 

Speaking of relative, as I mention in the video, this would make a great holiday gift, so even if you’re not a big fan of lemon, pay attention nonetheless. 

Above and beyond the nominally fewer calories, I really like the appearance and texture of this style lemon curd better anyway. Recipes that contain all yolks instead of whole eggs, and up to twice as much butter, are just too rich and heavy for my taste.

Since this is typically served as a sauce for things like gingerbread and scones, or as a filling for cakes, I don’t see the advantages of an overly heavy concoction. The one exception for me would be pies and tarts, where you probably do want the more hardcore variations.

I know a lot of you get nervous when whisking eggs over heat is involved, but as you’ll see, this is really simple to do. Besides, if tragedy does strike, and you get a few pieces of overcooked eggs in the mixture, simply put it through a strainer before adding the zest and butter. No one will ever know! With the holidays right around the corner, I hope you give this easy, old-fashioned lemon curd I try. Enjoy!

Ingredients for about 1 1/2 cups Lemon Curd:

3 whole large eggs

3/4 cup white sugar

2/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice

1 1/2 tbsp freshly grated lemon zest

I am still gathering information. But it is clear that Umair Asim himself has not been directly accused of blasphemy. Being part of the administration of the school (his father - Asim Farooqi is the main owner/principal), he has been arrested. From today's Express Tribune:

The school management took out front page adverts in two leading newspapers on Friday to deny it had any knowledge of the supposed insults to the prophet, saying Iftikhar distributed the work just 10 minutes before the school closed for the Eidul Azha holiday.

“Our school management and the owners have no link whatsoever with this dirty act,” the advertisement in Urdu said.

“We appeal to the government and the police to take legal action against this teacher and investigate her real motive”.

The school’s headmaster Asim Farooqi has been remanded in custody for 14 days on charges of blasphemy, which can attract the death penalty, police officer Azam Manhais told AFP, while a search was under way for Iftikhar.

Farooqi’s lawyer Jawad Ashraf said they would apply for bail on Saturday and accused police of bowing to the mob over the headmaster’s arrest.

“It seems his arrest was made on public pressure but we see that he has no role in this entire case except some negligence as principal of this school,” he said.

And if you still think that there is no problem with the blasphemy law - here some of the protesters:

Many of the protesters at the scene didn’t appear to know exactly what the protests were about. “He [the school owner] is a bad man. His school should be destroyed,” said a nine-year-old child, though he said he didn’t know what offence the owner had committed. 

“He is a very indecent person. He should be punished for doing this. He charges high fees and doesn’t listen to complaints,” said a protester who identified himself as Muhammad Abdullah.

What! A nine-year-old talking about destroying the school!! And not even knowing the nature of the offense. No - Richard Dawkins is still wrong about calling religion as child abuse, but this is exactly the kind of thing that gives fodder to that.

This is a quick post as I am still trying to get more details. Please if you have more information about this event, please either email me directly or post it here.

I posted a number of times about Umair Asim. I have known him personally for the last 15 years. He is one of the most dedicated amateur astronomers that I know of and owns Pakistan's largest telescope (here is a report on his observatory). He gives regular talks on astronomy to the general public and was instrumental in making the International Year of Astronomy a huge success in Pakistan (see here, here, here, and here). He is also runs Farooqi Girls High School in Lahore, which is considered an outstanding school and students from the school routinely get top scores in Lahore.

But the school was burnt down on Wednesday. There are rumors of blasphemy circulating. And I think Umair's father (who is 77 years old), his mother (67 years old) and Umair have been arrested. It is unclear what exactly happened - but the issue seems to be about some missing page for a test. The mob wants the teacher as well who made the copies of the test. Here is the story from the CS Monitor:

A mob attacked a girls' school in the city of Lahore, Pakistan,  Wednesday, demanding that teachers hand over the principal and a teacher, after rumors emerged that the teacher had insulted the prophet Muhammad. 

Though it is unclear just what the teacher said, more than 200 people ransacked the school, set a nearby car on fire, and graffitied the phrase “school management are blasphemers” on the wall of the Farooqi Girls's High School, which is considered one of the better schools in Lahore.  

The police arrested the principal, Asim Farooqi, on blasphemy charges, which carries the death sentence in Pakistan. The accused teacher, Arfa Iftikhar, has reportedly gone into hiding. 

Analysts say that the fact that that the incident happened in Lahore, the cultural capital of Pakistan, raises serious concerns about the lack of control Pakistani authorities have over extremist elements even in progressive parts of the country.

LAHORE: Police arrested a headmaster on blasphemy charges on Thursday, officers said, after a mob ransacked his school over allegations a test paper insulted the Prophet Mohammed. 

A 250-strong crowd stormed Farooqi Girls' High School in the eastern city of Lahore late on Wednesday after students told parents about derogatory references to the Muslim prophet in an English test. 

Police officer Azam Manhais told AFP the school principal Asim Farooqi had been arrested under Pakistan's strict blasphemy laws, which can lead to the death penalty, and a search was under way for the teacher who prepared the question paper.  

Furniture and the principal's car were set ablaze in the attack and the school, which was opened in 1978 and has a good reputation, remained closed on Thursday.

Tahir Ikram, a police official, said 250 people including parents, residents and young boys were involved in the attack and officers have registered a case against this "unknown group of people" for ransacking the school. 

Multan Khan, a senior police official, confirmed the incident and said police had opened a blasphemy case against the teacher, Arfa Iftikhar, and the principal.

And just for information, Umair is the last person I can imagine who would commit blasphemy. He is a polite, religious guy who loves and absolutely loves astronomy.
